CFL dispute not expected to interrupt training camp in Kamloops

The B.C. Lions are set to begin training camp in Kamloops next week.

KAMLOOPS - The B.C. Lions arrive in Kamloops next week and though the league and players still need a contract agreement the training camp is expected to go ahead as planned.

“We had a conference call with the Lions management this morning,” City Facilities Manager Jeff Putnam says. “We’re all assuming it’s business as usual…. Until we hear otherwise from the players association.”

Kamloops has been hosting the Lions training camp for the last several years. The rookie camp is set to begin Thursday, May 29 and the rest of the players begin training Sunday, June 1.

Hillside Stadium is open to the public during much of the camp so fans can stop by to watch their favourite players hit the field. Fanfest is scheduled for Sunday, June 8.

The Canadian Football League and players association still need an agreement, with the most recent offer rejected last week by the association. Scheduled league play starts mid-June.
