KAMLOOPS - Only a year after bringing the plan to city council, a new casino is set to open next month in Kamloops.
Currently downtown, the company is relocating Lake City Casinos to the Aberdeen location and rebranding it as Cascades Casino.
Construction of the new casino began at the former Rona location on Versatile Drive in February.
The company originally planned to open in the fall but got a jump start on construction and hoped to open in July.
This weekend the company announced the grand opening, complete with live entertainment, food and ‘many surprises’, will take place on July 29.
Roadwork to accomodate the traffic generated by the casino began in May. New traffic signals on Copperhead Drive are operational and crews are currently tearing up Hugh Allan Drive as they prepare to widen the roadway and add a roundabout at Versatile Drive.
The new casino will include five restaurants in addition to a 30,000-square-foot gaming floor and entertainment space.
