VERNON - A 0.2-hectare wildfire in Vernon's BX area is now under control, according to B.C. Wildfire.

The fire started yesterday afternoon, Aug. 29, in the BX Swan Lake Fire Department's jurisdiction, and provincial crews assisted in the fire fight.

The fire department confirmed the fire was burning off of Dixon Dam Road near Tillicum Road in Vernon.

B.C. Wildfire information officer Justine Hunse says structures are in the vicinity of the Kedleston Fire, but they're not immediately threatened.

She says the fire is now considered under control, which means it likely will not grow.

"(It's) pretty quiet out there today," Hunse says. "The fire is now considered to be under control."

Three B.C. Wildfire firefighters were on site assisting the local fire department yesterday, and two helicopters were assisting earlier in the day with bucketing.

Hunse says although the fire is now estimated at 0.2 hectares, it didn't grow. The new size is due to more accurate mapping.
