Penticton firefighters on the scene of a blaze at the Highland Motel on Burnaby Avenue, Friday, June 30, 2017.

PENTICTON – Firefighters are at the scene of a motel fire in Penticton’s northend this afternoon.

Penticton Fire Department was called to a fire at the Highland Motel on Burnaby Avenue and Wylie Street, just off Riverside Drive, at about 2 p.m. today, June 30.

Along with fire crews, RCMP and B.C. Ambulance paramedics responding to the fire.

No word if anyone has been hurt or what caused the fire.

Several occupants of the motel could be seen watching firefighters battle the blaze from across the street in the nearby Day Inn parking lot.

A resident who lives nearby, who did not want to be named, said the motel had recently sold and today was supposed to be the tenants last day in the building.
