QUEBEC - Adonis Stevenson knocked out Thomas Williams Jr. in the fourth round on Friday night to retain his light heavyweight title.

The win improves Stevenson's record to 28-1 with 23 knockouts.

Williams (20-2, 14 knockouts) put pressure on the 38-year-old Montreal native from the start as the duo went shot for shot at the Videotron Centre. The American was put to the floor at the end of their first round, but got up at the count of eight.

"He wanted to put on some pressure, so I put some on as well," Stevenson said after retaining his title for a seventh time.

"Two men who know how to fight. We gave a good show and that's what people want to see."

At 2:54 of the fourth round, a Stevenson left sent his rival to the ground again but this time Williams was unable to get up.
