VERNON – After waiting a month and a half for the Shuswap River to calm the South East district dive team recovered the body of a man whose truck plunged into the water.

The 1994 Ford truck sank in the river on the evening of June 14. A witness said the driver veered off the road near Shuswap Falls bridge on Mable Lake road east of Lumby. The witness did not see if the driver escaped.

After the accident, Vernon Search and Rescue conducted a ground search for the driver to no avail. Because of the dangerous water levels and speed, the dive team could not search the water until now.

“The driver of the vehicle was found to be still inside the truck when it was recovered today (July 31),” said Gord Molendyk, a spokesperson for the RCMP.

The name of the driver has not been released by RCMP.
