TORONTO - Edwin Encarnacion homered in his first at-bat Sunday, his fourth in six at-bats, to extend his major-league-best hitting streak to 25 games.

The Toronto Blue Jays' slugger hit a solo home run to right-centre in the first inning off Detroit Tigers starter Alfredo Simon, his 30th of the season.

By driving in his 35th run in August, Encarnacion set a new franchise record for RBIs in any month.

Encarnacion's 25-game hitting streak is the fourth-longest in club history, three short of Shawn Green's record of 28 set in 1999.

In a 15-1 rout of the Tigers on Saturday, Encarnacion hit a two-run home run, a three-run home run and a grand slam.

With nine RBIs, Encarnacion tied Roy Howell's franchise record from 1977.

Encarnacion is hitting .407 with 11 home runs and 35 RBIs during the hitting streak.

His home run Sunday was one of three for the Blue Jays in the first two innings, as Josh Donaldson hit his 36th of the season and Kevin Pillar connected for his ninth.

"I've decided that we need to increase the price of seats in the left field outfield seats," Blue Jays senior vice-president of business Stephen R. Brooks tweeted. "They come with an authentic game used ball."

Note to readers: This is a corrected story. A previous version incorrectly had Roy Howell's first name as Ray.
