Batman villains and zombie candidates: The Penticton election is getting kooky

PENTICTON - Growing frustrations with Penticton’s political landscape has inspired now two political lampoons, inspired by gold rush heroes and Batman villains.

A poster of mayoral candidates depicted as villains from Batman showed up around town Tuesday, and ultimately made its way to Facebook. The poster shows Mayor Garry Litke as the Joker, Coun. Andrew Jakubeit as Bane, and Coun. John Vassilaki as Two-Face, and the odd message: "Sometimes people deserve to have their faith rewarded."

Also circulating the internet is a new candidate who is long since dead. He even has his own website and campaign slogan.

“I’ve been dead for 80 years and I’m running for Mayor of Penticton,” the website says.  “At least you know where I stand.”

Black and white photos of the grey-bearded, suited man began circulating around Facebook on Friday. In comments, people asked to speak to the candidate, and others wondered if it was a campaign for John Vassilaki, a current councillor who announced his mayoral candidacy last month.

Anonymous comments on the website express frustrations with the current and past councils.
