EDMONTON - NDP Leader Rachel Notley has handily won re-election in the Alberta provincial election.

Notley, 51, never trailed in her constituency of Edmonton Strathcona.

Notley won the NDP leadership race last October while in her second term as a member of the legislature.

She replaced Brian Mason who said a new face was needed to help the New Democrats win more seats.

Notley is the daughter of Grant Notley, who helped found the NDP in Alberta, but who died in a plane crash in 1984, two years before the party became Alberta's official Opposition.
