KELOWNA – Fire crews are hitting a wildfire in the Joe Rich area of Kelowna hard Sunday afternoon.

A report of smoke in the trees sent a Kelowna and Joe Rich fire crews to the 8000-block of Sun Valley Road off Highway 33 east.

B.C. Wildfire Management fire information officer Kelsey Winter says doesn’t know how big the fire is.

“We sent a tanker group and a response officer just because the terrain is pretty steep,” Winter says, “There are structures in the area but none of them are threatened.”

No word yet on the fire’s cause.
