SEVEN THINGS YOU CAN FIND AT THE WINTER FARMERS MARKET

KAMLOOPS - Crisp green lettuce, juicy, ripe cherry tomatoes and rich, buttery squash all practically sell themselves from the stands at the farmer's market. But that's when they're in season.

As the harvest season winds down, the outdoor markets of Kamloops are moving indoors throughout the winter season for the second year in Sahali Mall.

It walks and talks like a farmer's market, but there are some distinct differences, as explained by Visions Farmers' Market Society president Andy Balogh.

SEVEN THINGS

1. Arts, crafts and other cutesy trinkets - For those who find Pinterest more of a tease than a reality.

2. Baked yummies - Pies, cakes, breads and enough baking to keep you plump and jolly throughout the holiday season.

3. Jam and honey - Because you just bought the bread.

4. Gluten free products - Homemade goodies for the gluten-free (poor souls) of Kamloops.

5. Dried fruit - While you'd expect to find fresh pears and apples at stands throughout the summer, a North Kamloops vendor dries his local produce for the less fruitful months.

6. Veggies - While limited, you can root for the hardier vegetables from the ground such as potatoes, carrots, beets and garlic.

7. Eggs, meat and homemade sausages - Animals, unlike plants, can survive winter.

When to attend

The market begins this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and runs every week until Christmas. In the New Year, the market runs on the first and third Saturday of the month. The outdoor markets concludes this week.
