KAMLOOPS - The trial for a Kamloops man accused of killing his father will be postponed so he can find a new lawyer, again.
Jaipreet Singh Toor faces one charge of second-degree murder after being arrested in connection with the death of his 79-year-old father, Harsewak Singh Toor, stabbed to death in North Kamloops last March.
Defence lawyer Jeremy Jensen wanted the judge to hear it from Toor's mouth yesterday in B.C. Supreme Court after Crown prosecutor Chris Balison noted that the trial was quickly approaching.
Toor agreed Jensen, the second lawyer on his case, no longer represents him and said he had no arrangements as of then for a new lawyer.
"I have to go back to the KRCC and request one from there, I guess," he said.
According to court documents, Toor's criminal record began in 2008 when he was found guilty of impaired driving. He was later found guilty of assault with a weapon for an offence in June 2009. He was also convicted for assault after an offence in March 2011 and pleaded guilty to mischief under $5,000 in May 2011.
He is expected back in court this October on a separate assault charge for an offence dating back to Aug. 13, 2012.
The trial for his second-degree murder charge was expected to begin mid-September, however a new date will be set on August 19.
Toor has elected trial by judge and jury. The trial is set for three weeks long.
