PENTICTON - Tourism Penticton just started a hunt for a new board chair following Miranda Halladay's resignation at the group's regular board meeting Wednesday.

Halladay said she resigned due to the Penticton Hospitality Association choosing "a program of stall and delay" when discussing the formation of one tourism group marketing the city and the demands of her expanding business.

"My goal in taking on the role of inaugural chair... was to see tourism marketing efforts in Penticton coalesce into a unified, effective organization," Halladay said in a press release.

"Unfortunately, for reasons confounding the majority of tourism stakeholders... the PHA has chosen a program of stall and delay, ultimately derailing this process."

The problem Halladay refers to has been going on for months. The Penticton Hospitality Association and the city have been arguing over the association's marketing effectiveness, contractual obligations and who should control the two per cent hotel room tax fund which is used to promote Penticton.

Halladay joined the board in 2012 and was its chair throughout 2013. Already gone are directors Alex Long and Rob Appelman who is now the president of the Penticton Hospitality Association. The seat representing the Penticton Indian Band is still vacant.

Those interested in joining the board should call Tourism Penticton's CEO Jessie Campbell by phone at 250-276-2162 or email jessie@tourismpenticton.com.
