RCMP Supt. Yves Lacasse, announced his retirement today after 27 years of service including eight years in Kamloops, and while he is leaving his post with the Kamloops police force, he won't be retiring from the workforce or pulling up stakes.

He has joined KGHM International's controversial proposed copper-gold mine project, Ajax Mine, calling it a 'tremendous opportunity' in a press release issued today announcing the retirement.

"Those who know me know I am passionate about the well-being of the city of Kamloops. This opportunity will allow me to work with the community to inform, consult and resolve issues related to this project," he said in the release.

"I know this project has its challenges and its critics, but I want to assure you I will serve in my new role with the well-being of the community in mind."

Lacasse retires next month after about 27 years of service including the last eight years in Kamloops. He helped implement the prolific offender system pilot project that has become a standard model in the RCMP and around the globe.

"I have enjoyed the role of serving our community as your chief of police, retiring from the RCMP is not an easy decision."
