Thieves target prescription drugs and parkas in two separate break and enters

VERNON - Policing are calling two overnight break and enters targetting prescription drugs and winter coats rather rare.

"These are not common break and enters," RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk says.

Around 3:40 a.m. Sept. 19, Vernon RCMP responded to an alarm at Nolan's Pharmacy at 3101 30th Avenue. They confirmed the business had been broken into, but the exact inventory of presciption drugs taken are unknown at this time.

The second break and enter happened about 5:40 a.m. at True Outdoors, located at 5100 Anderson Way. The front door was forced open and thieves made off with numerous Canada Goose Arctic Line men's and women's parkas in various colours. The coats have the brand logo on them, with red maple leaves and the name.

"These parkas start in price at $600 and up, resulting in a significant loss to the store," Molendyk said.

He hopes prospective consumers will shop with a wary eye.

"The parkas have a distinct logo. If you're on Kijiji or someone on the street is wanting to sell you (a parka) for $100, an alarm bell should go off."

Though the break and enters occurred within two hours of each other, Molendyk says they aren't necessarily connected.

"These were two totally different types of items stolen," he says.

Reports of a grey sedan in the area could be linked to the crime.

Anyone with information can contact Vernon RCMP at 250-545-7171 or Crime Stoppers.
