KAMLOOPS – The public information sessions promised by Yves Lacasse earlier this month are quickly approaching and while KGHM Ajax Mining Ltd. would like to see people register for the information sessions, another group is hoping to gather people to rally against the proposed mine.
The sessions will take place Sept. 9 and 11 from 5-9 p.m. and Sept. 10 and 12 from 1-5 p.m. at the Thompson Rivers University Grand Hall. Information on the studies being done to test air quality, water quality and noise and vibration models as well as on the human health and ecological risk assessment will be offered at the sessions, though the company is very clear that no results will be available.
Earlier this month external affairs manager Yves Lacasse said the sessions are in response to the request for more answers, though he did admit no project specific information would be provided.
“We want to provide enough information so people will understand how these models fit into our EA (environmental assessment) submission,” he said during a press conference. “We want to provide accurate information about the project, talk about what is involved in the models and to provide the public with the opportunity to ask us questions.”
While KGHM is preparing for the last session Kamloops Area Preservation Association is hoping to gather people to rally against the mine at 12:30 p.m. at the west side entrance to the Campus Activity Center.
Organizers say the rally will be a peaceful protest to bring awareness to KGHM and city council 'that the mine is not in the best interest of our city.'
