THOMPSON-OKANAGAN – Three former Okanaganites have cracked the men's hockey team and will now face all the pressure that comes with representing Canadian hockey at the Olympics in Sochi next month.

Executive director Steve Yzerman was among those on hand to announce the roster Tuesday morning and says the depth of Canadian talent means the players should be very proud of their nomination to the team.

Of the 25 players to make the team Duncan Keith of Penticton, Shea Weber of Sicamous and Jamie Benn of Victoria all played in the Western Hockey League for the Kelowna Rockets before making it to the National Hockey League.

Keith, defence, now plays for the Chicago Blackhawks and defenceman Weber plays for the Nashville Predators while Benn, forward, plays for the Dallas Stars. Vancouver Canucks Roberto Luongo and Dan Hamhuis also cracked Team Canada.

Also making the team are goalies Carey Price of the Montreal Canadians and Mike Smith of the Phoenix Coyotes, defenceman Jay Bouwmeester, St. Louis Blues, Drew Doughty, Los Angeles Kings, Alex Pietrangelo, also of the Blues, P.K. Suban, Montreal Canadians, and Marc-Edouard Vlasic of the San Jose Sharks as well as forwards Patrice Bergeron, Boston Bruins, Jess Carter, Kings, Sidney Crosby, Pittsburgh Penguins, Matt Duchene, Colorado Avalanche, Ryan Getzlaf, Anaheim Ducks, Chris Kunitz, Penguins, Patrick Marleau, Sharks, Rick Nash, New York Rangers, Corey Perry, Ducks, Patrick Sharp, Blackhawks, Steven Stamkos, Tampa Bay Lightening, John Tavares, New York Islanders and Jonathan Toews of the Blackhawks.

Vernon native Ken Holland, currently with the Detroit Red Wings as executive vice president and general manager, is also part of the Team Canada management team.

Men's Olympic hockey begins Feb. 12 with Team Canada first hitting the ice on Thursday, Feb. 13 against Norway. The team will also play Austria and Finland in the preliminary round. The gold medal game goes Feb. 23.
