No end in sight for Sun Rivers power outage

KAMLOOPS - Sun Rivers residents have been without power since around 9 a.m. today and it's unclear when it will be returned.

"I don't have an estimated time as to when they will have it restored," said Corix Utilities representative Tara Grant.

The Sun Rivers administration office is closed for the day and a note on the office door cites the outage. The Sun Rivers Twitter account says power is expected to be returned around 3 p.m., but Grant could not confirm the time.

An employee working on scene said electrical equipment 'melted' and that an expert was en route to sort out the issue.

Those who had a sunny tee-time in mind need not be worried, the golf course is still operational. The pro shop and Hoodoos restaurant are also making due without power and have remained open.

As for the rest of the subdivision, it's unclear when things will get going again.

"I'm in the dark as much as everyone else," Grant said.

Unlike the majority of Kamloops — provided power through B.C. Hydro, Sun Rivers gets its power through Corix Utilities which explains why Sun Rivers is the only area of the city affected.
