WEST KELOWNA — A 40-year-old man was sent to hospital with serious injuries after crashing his motorcycle into an oncoming vehicle on Westside Road last night.

At around 9:45 p.m., West Kelowna RCMP received a report of a multiple vehicle collision on the 500 block of Westside Road. A northbound Harley veered into the oncoming lane and struck a southbound Subaru Legacy. Investigators determined vehicles were travelling at relatively low speeds when the accident occurred and damage to the Subaru was minimal. The driver of the motorcycle suffered serious, but non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital by ambulance.

Police believe the accident was likely caused by road debris and driver error. The motorcyclist will receive a violation ticket for Drive Without Consideration carrying a $196 fine.

The 40-year-old man driving the Subaru was found to be impaired by alcohol though this was not considered by police to be a contributing factor in the crash. He was issued a 90-day immediate roadside driving prohibition and his car will be impounded for 30 days.
