LUMBY - A homeowner on Horner Road came face-to-face with a cougar January 3, and if that wasn't enough to frighten her, the woman soon learned what the animal was doing in her yard.

The cougar had attacked her dog. The woman told police the big cat was about ten feet from her door when she noticed it.

Police say she took matters into her own hands and shot the cougar before their arrival.
