KAMLOOPS — Partying in Kamloops is about to get a little more PG.
After a change in ownership, the last strip show at the Duchess on Tranquille will take place Saturday night.
"There won't be anymore strippers," said Christopher Hammer, office manager for the club.
After the Rendezvous closed in 2009, Kamloops strip club and bar, Outbacks—notorious for accepting Canadian Tire money—got a major renovation and was renamed the Duchess on Tranquille, taking the spotlight as the only strip club left in Kamloops.
Years later, the new owners have different plans for the bar, in keeping with the continual changes in North Kamloops.
They're also seeking steadier crowds.
"Being a strip club, a lot of people kind of shunned and stayed away from it," Hammer said.
Dino Bernardo, co-owner of the The Commodore Grand Cafe and Lounge, said there's still demand for a strip club in Kamloops.
"I think there's always a demand for it," he said.
He isn't interested, however, in getting the licensing to offer adult entertainment in his own bar.
"We cater to two completely different (crowds)," Bernardo said.
The Duchess has been known for its wild Wednesday nights and wet T-shirt contests since it changed from Outbacks in 2011.
"This place is usually at full capacity," Hammer said of Wednesday amateur nights.
The bar will continue as a restaurant and pub and potentially operate part-time as a nightclub.
"He wants to try it out and see what works and what doesn't," Hammer said.
