KAMLOOPS - The outcome of an internal investigation into the Kamloops bus driver who failed a roadside alcohol test over the weekend is expected Thursday, B.C. Transit says.
"We're taking the matter very, very seriously," said B.C. Transit spokesperson Meribeth Burton. "We expect that there will be a quick resolution."
A 90-day driving prohibition was handed to a public transit driver after failing a roadside check while en route near Juniper via the No. 16 in Kamloops. B.C. Transit has said there were no passengers aboard the vehicle when an employee called in the suspicious behaviour of the driver. A supervisor escalated the situation to police who later issued an Immediate Roadside Prohibition when the driver failed a roadside sobriety test.
Now, B.C. Transit, First Canada and the Office of the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles will also have a say in the driver's fate.
B.C. Transit is in consultation with First Canada as far as what happens next for the driver — as far as the job goes — but B.C. Transit spokesperson, Maureen Sheehan said yesterday that there will 'definitely' be disciplinary action.
Burton called the situation rare and disturbing.
"First Canada and B.C. Transit have never heard of an incident like this before," she said.
