A hamburger helps send children to the happiest place on earth - and so does a Frosty, a salad or anything else purchased at any Wendy's restaurant today in the Interior for Wendy's Dreamlift Day.

In it's 19th year, the one-day annual event raises money from the net profits of all sales of Inland Wendy's Restaurants for the Sunshine Foundation to help send children with disabilities or chronic illnesses to Disneyland for a one-day adventure.

Tony Tabor, Billy Clapperton and James Martensen from the T.R.U. Wolfpack baseball team were among some of the volunteers at the North Kamloops location.

"This is my first year," Tabor said. "All the teams do it."

He said they had just started their shift volunteering for the cause.

Clapperton said he has enjoyed his time so far with responsibilities ranging from cleaning tables to making bacon.

"I've been taking out some crates and giving balloons to kids," he said.

"Everybody seems pretty happy, pretty friendly."

It wasn't Martensen's first time helping out for the event.

"I was here last year and it was good," he said. "Everyone's in a good mood. It's a good cause."

The teammates said that they are among several of the university's sports teams that volunteers for the day.

"It starts out as doing your time, the coach assigns us time spots," Martensen said. "Once you get here, it's more than you thought."

Owners, management and staff wages are also all donated in the push to raise funds for the Sunshine Foundation.

The foundation puts families up in a hotel before sending kids to Disneyland with a group of volunteers for one day of fun in the magical kingdom.

The cost for the trip is about $150,000.

The first Wendy's Dreamliftt Day in 1995 raised just over $10,000. Last year, the event raised $114,276.35. Over $1 million has been raised since the event's inception.

Visit a Wendy's location in Valleyview, Sahali or North Kamloops today to support the cause.
