Review launched after Hells Angels member hired by City of Vancouver

VANCOUVER - The City of Vancouver says staff will review its employment practices after a member of the Hells Angels was hired as a garbage collector.

Ronald Lising has been convicted of drugs, weapons and assault offences, and in 2005, he was nabbed during a massive investigation that saw police raid Hells Angels clubhouses in Kelowna and Vancouver.

Lising, who has served time in prison, was hired as a seasonal trash collector in Vancouver in May.

Vancouver's city manager Penny Ballem says staff did not do a criminal record check at the time because Lising was employed as a labourer.

Ballem says that since the job does not require contact with children or vulnerable people, or access to financial records, it was not necessary to probe Lising's criminal background.

Ballem says staff are now looking into what questions will be asked of future employees. (CKNW)
