Fire evacuation order issued for area south of Ashcroft reduced

For Immediate Release (May 13/13): The Thompson-Nicola Regional District is officially reducing the area under the Evacuation Order issued Sunday, May 12, in the area south of Ashcroft affected by the Spatsum Creek Wildfire in Electoral Area "I" (Blue Sky Country).

The area previously under an evacuation order included all properties northeast of Barnes Lake Road, YD Ranch Road and Studhouse Road, as well as an area starting at the north tip of Barnes Lake, moving west to the Thompson River (excluding the Village of Ashcroft), south along the Thompson River to the southern end of Basque, east to Highway 97 and ending back at the north tip of Barnes Lake.

The new Evacuation Order, issued at 1:30 p.m., Monday, May 13, now encompasses the area from the intersection of Highway 97C and Barnes Lake Road, including all properties on Barnes Lake Road, YD Ranch Road and Studhorse Road. Please refer to the attached map to determine the new evacuation zone.

The previous Evacuation Order from Sunday, May 12, has now been officially rescinded and the new Evacuation Order reflects the change in area.

The previous Evacuation Alerts from Saturday, May 11, and Sunday, May 12 will remain in effect. Residents in those areas should be prepared to evacuate their premises and property in case circumstances change. Please refer to tnrd.ca for more information and maps about these Evacuation Alert zones.

Residents in the new evacuation zone, if they haven't already, should leave the area immediately due to the potential danger to life and health. Evacuees are also advised to turn off their power and propane before they leave.

EVACUATION RESCIND

The Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) Emergency Operations Centre has been advised that the imminent risk of danger to life and properties in your area has diminished at this time.

I HEREBY DECLARE, the Evacuation Order issued on May 12, 2013 at 2030 hrs, pursuant to Section. 5.4 of TNRD Local Authority Emergency Program Bylaw No. 2017 is therefore rescinded. The Evacuation Alert remains in effect. An Evacuation Order may need to be reissued if the risk of danger to life and property should again warrant such action.

EVACUATION ORDER

Pursuant to Section 5.4 of TNRD Local Authority Emergency Program Bylaw No. 2017, an Evacuation Order has been issued by Chair Randy S Murray from the Thompson-Nicola Regional District at the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) in Kamloops.

A rapidly moving wildfire currently located south of the Village of Ashcroft in Electoral Area "I" (Blue Sky Country) is threatening the people and property in the area.

Because of the potential danger to life and health, the Thompson-Nicola Regional District has ordered everyone to evacuate the following areas immediately:
- From the intersection of Highway 97C and Barnes Lake Rd including all properties on Barnes Lake Road, YD Ranch Rd and Studhorse Rd.

If you are in the described area, you must leave immediately. It is also suggested that evacuees turn off the power and propane to their residences.
