Facelift for Tranquille corridor

KAMLOOPS – Council is set to approve a $3.7 million contract today for upgrades to the Tranquille corridor that will see new lighting, a multi-use path and curb extensions between Leigh Road and Sydney Avenue.

A total of 124 LED lights are set to replace the current 55 lights and three traffic signal intersections will be upgraded. These electrical components come in about $130,000 above the approved budget of $2.4 million and it is expected the shortfall will be funded by the gaming reserve.

The pedestrian upgrades are also coming in about $100,000 above the $845,000 budget and council will consider putting off two other smaller pedestrian upgrades in the 900 block of Summit Drive and McGill Road between Camosun Crescent and Hillside Drive until 2014 to help offset the additional costs.

Local firm Dawson Construction has again submitted the lowest bid, following up projects on Westsyde Road and Highland Road already awarded earlier this year.
