Drinking water advisory issued for Black Mountain

The turbidity of local water sources has triggered another water quality advisory, this time for residents within the Black Mountain community. The irrigation district points to rising flow through Mission Creek but says the turbidity has not compromised the chlorination in the water system. Chlorine is added in the irrigation system to ensure no bacteria or viruses pass into residents' drinking water.

The Black Mountain Irrigation District says the advisory is not as severe as a Boil Water notice.

No bacteria has been detected thus far from their water monitoring. However the district is recommending Black Mountain residents boil their water for one minute before drinking as a precautionary measure. This includes water used for washing fruits and vegetables. Drinking bottled water is also an alternative.

In future cases the district is planning to use Ultraviolet disinfection as another strategy to improve water quality.

If you have questions about the advisory contact the district office at 250-765-5169.
