Dive team to search for missing teens in Nicola Lake

UPDATE - 4:10 p.m. April 22, 2013

A dive team searching for two missing teenagers in Nicola Lake has turned up no trace of the boys so far.

Merritt RCMP Const. Tracy Dunsmore said two Langley boys - aged 17 and 18 - were reported missing about 10:30 p.m. last night.

"Basically the dive team is on scene," Dunsmore said. "We haven't recovered anything."

A canoe was found by search and rescue helicopter crews this morning overturned in the north end of the lake.

The boy's belongings were also found at the campground of which they were staying.

Dunsmore said the search will continue for the missing boys.

"Search and rescue has been out there all day."

A dive team has been called in this morning to help locate two missing Langley teens who were camping at Nicola Lake.

RCMP were called to the scene southwest of Kamloops after family members reported the teens missing about 10:30 p.m. last night.

A shoreline search was conducted and their personal belongings were found at the campsite they were staying at.

The caretaker of the campground told RCMP that the teens had used a canoe, but it was nowhere to be found at their site.

Search and rescue arrived on the scene this morning and found the canoe with a helicopter.

"They did locate the canoe that was turned over and half-submerged at the north end of the lake," said Merritt RCMP Const. Tracy Dunsmore. "At this point, we haven't located the boys."

Dunsmore said the lake draws in parasailers, as it's well-known for it's force-winds.

"It's quite a windy lake," she said.

The dive team has yet to arrive on seen, but Dunsmore said she expects the search to take hours.

"It's quite a large lake, so there's quite a bit of ground."
