KAMLOOPS - While some people are frowning at the thought of rain going into the long weekend, the BC Wildfire Branch is breathing a sigh of relief as the fire danger rating falls lower and lower.
"We have seen throughout most of our fire centre the fire danger rating has gone down," said Kamloops fire information officer, Kayla Pepper.
It is expected to drop further this afternoon with even more rain in the Kamloops area.
"It's definitely welcomed and so are the cooler temperatures," Pepper said. "At this time we are definitely seeing a decrease in the wildfire risk."
Pepper said there are no fires of note in the Kamloops area, but said the fire season is known to last until October. She said the long-term forecast as summer rolls into fall calls for a bit more heat, something the centre is prepared for.
"There's still a chance we could see some fire action," Pepper said.
Pepper is reminding those who are making long weekend plans that the campfire ban has been lifted but is limited to half a meter wide and tall. Fireworks are prohibited.
