Police probe ends into fatal care home assault after death of elderly suspect

KAMLOOPS, B.C. - The B.C. Coroners' Service confirms the death of a senior being investigated in connection with a violent attack at a Kamloops, B.C., care home.

Coroner Barb McLintock says the 71-year-old man died at the Hillside Care Centre in Kamloops on Sept. 19.

He had been moved there after an incident at another Kamloops care home in June.

The family of 79-year-old Jack Shippobotham believes he suffered complications and died three weeks after the altercation with the 71-year-old.

McLintock says a coroners' investigation is still underway in the case, along with a separate probe involving a 95-year-old dementia patient from Vernon charged with the August homicide of another care home resident.

But she notes the RCMP examination of the June attack at the Kamloops care home has ended with the death of the elderly suspect. (CHNL)
