Car accident claims a life near Eagle Rock Road in Spallumcheen

The deceased driver of a single vehicle crash on Hwy 97 A in Spallumcheen is carried from the scene.

Police are investigating a fatal, single vehicle accident that happened sometime last night on Highway 97A just past Eagle Rock Road near Armstrong.

Const. Mike Jacobson confirmed the driver, who was the lone occupant in the blue, Chevy minivan, died after the vehicle left the highway and rolled down a 30 foot embankment. The minivan was badly damaged in the accident and landed on its roof. Contents from the vehicle were strewn about the scene. The area where the accident occurred is part of the Eagle Rock Road intersection improvement project and during the day, one lane is closed in each direction, and speed limits are reduced from 100 km/h to 50 km/h.

Const. Jacobson told Infotel News the car was discovered by construction workers arriving on the job at 6:30 a.m. but he added the crash might have happened earlier. The area was not under construction at the time of the accident, and Jacobson says the speed limit had been raised back to 100 km/h.

The driver, who was trapped inside the vehicle, has been removed by RCMP and the coroner. Details about the man's identity and the cause of the accident are not being revealed at this time.
