A week has passed since CJ Fowler's remains were found at Guerin Creek in Kamloops, but RCMP have yet to find her killer.

"(The investigation) is still characterized by the Major Crime Unit as very, very active," RCMP spokesperson, Staff Sgt. Grant Learned said today.

Kamloops RCMP continue to work with Terrace and Prince George detachments and have identified the timeline leading to her death between 2:50 a.m. and 6 a.m., Dec. 5.

"They've narrowed that down considerably," Learned said.

Learned asks anyone on Columbia Street during that time to contact RCMP. He said they believe Fowler may have been travelling to the Sahali Greyhound Station, where she had a bus ticket to go home, before she was killed.

"If you recall seeing people walking up Columbia Street, we would be interested in talking with you," he said, noting that taxi drivers, commuters and people walking in the area could provide valuable information.

He also reminds anyone in the Grandview Terrace and Dalgleish areas with security surveillance systems to contact RCMP.

While police have not revealed what Fowler was wearing at the time of her death, Learned described the 16-year-old First Nations girl as "fairly short with a slight build."

While RCMP continue the investigation, Fowler's family gathered with representatives from the Assembly of First Nations (AFN) today in Vancouver where national chief Shawn Atleo has called for a National Public Commission of Inquiry on missing and murdered indigenous women and girls.

"How many more lives must be lost, how many more families must be devastated before we see action from government to work tougher with us to ensure our peoples are safe," he said in a press release.

"In the depth of our grief from our beloved daughter, we are comforted in the support of our leaders, for continuing to take this message forward and to advocate on behalf of us and the other families impacted by such tragedies," said Fowler's mother, Matilda, in the press release.

Matilda has kept family and friends in touch through Facebook.

"My daughter has touched many hearts and now she (is) going (to) watch over us all, and it's hard to put things (into) words. I'm glad we have (much) support," she said in a message posted late last night.

She said she will continue to update friends and family online.

"Everyone remember that my girl (has been) taken from us and remember we will keep you all posted, so don't ask others about what's going on please."
