The Kamloops Blazers are back in the series after a big win on home ice in game three of the Western Conference Final.

The Blazers were down two games in the series against the Portland Winterhawks before winning game three in Kamloops 5-1 Tuesday night.

The opening goal went to Winterhawks assistant captain Ty Rattie with his fourteenth goal of the playoffs 5:32 into the game after Portland capitalized on a five-on-three powerplay.

While the Winterhawks were first to light up the scoreboard, the rest of the game was all Blazers. The Blazers responded with five unanswered goals as the team's big names stepped up to the plate, amping up the home fans at the Interior Savings Centre and closing in on Portland's lead.

Blazers centre Colin Smith put one past goaltender Mac Carruth 16:37 into the first period to pave the way for the Blazers victory.

Joel Edmundson followed pursuit, knocking one in just 1:06 into the second with help from teammates Breandan Ranford and Tim Bozon.

Even the fourth line showed up with Aaron Macklin scoring and putting the Blazers up 3-1 nearly halfway through the game.

Shortly after, Matt Needham set up Tim Bozon 14:56 into the second to put another past Carruth.

And Bozon wasn't finished yet, scoring the Blazers final goal of the game two minutes later, sending a message to the Winterhawks and taking the lead of 5-1.

The Winterhawks picked up in the third period, outshooting the Blazers 12-3, but they were unable to get past Blazers goaltender Cole Cheveldave.

Cheveldave saved 35 shots overall for the Blazers giving the team the support they needed to earn their first win of the series.

The series continues Wednesday night in Kamloops for game four. The puck drops at 7 p.m. at the Interior Savings Centre.
