KAMLOOPS – In the fourth search in the past nine days Kamloops Search and Rescue rescued a 24-year-old Ontario man who was skiing out of bounds at Sun Peaks this afternoon.

The man was due back at noon but was reported missing a short while later when he did not show up. Search Manager Alan Hobler says he believes the skier was reported missing first to the resort and then to the RCMP. As of 2:45 p.m. 10 search and rescue members were on their way to the resort to help search for the man and a little while later RCMP made contact with him by phone.

An RCMP helicopter also made visual contact but the area was not safe for the helicopter to land so the skier was directed out of the area to safety. Search and rescue members went in by snowmobile to reach the man before dark and by 4:30 p.m. he had been delivered to a waiting RCMP vehicle on a nearby forestry road.

Hobler says this rescue took place on the west side of Tod Mountain, the same area as where the young skiers were on Monday where the first rescue of the week took place. Search and rescue was first called to the resort last Monday when three 14-year-old boys went missing, they were brought back to safety 14 hours later and then on Friday they were called out to find two sisters that had gone missing, they were found around midnight. While attending that call a U.S. Woman was reported missing as well. She was not located until the following morning when a helicopter was able to get a visual on her. All six had been been skiing out of bounds.
