KGHM Ajax Mine Ltd. has met a promise with the release of the 3D model today and Coun. Nelly Dever says the public will be pleased with the improvement of this model over one released last year.
Dever is happy the company has met every request by council on the model and believes the difference from the previous is night and day.
The model offers views from the pre-construction phase as well as years five, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 50. Each is a separate file download and is not available on mobile applications right now.
The model, which has been improved council's misgivings at a meeting in March, also includes visibility profile reports of designated areas, many of which are broad according to Dever who told the company she would like to see them pick points that might actually have a view of the mine site. Sun Rivers is now included in the profiles, but Dever has also requested a profile for Kenna Cartwright Park be included so people who regularly use the park can see how the mine will look.
Council also accepted a petition from Caroline King asking council to consider the proposed mine. The petition gathered more than 1,600 signatures through Change.org and council agreed to accept the petition just as they did one put forward by Steve Knudson that saw more than 2,400 signatures of people who want council to oppose the mine. Mayor Peter Milobar has said on numerous occasions that council does not have an actual say in the mine but are able to offer an opinion.
