Kelowna – The success of the 100 Men Who Give a Damn, a group of men who want to give back to their community but have limited time, has grown to 170. In committing, members are asked to give $100 directly to one of three nominated charities, four times per year.

The first event to select a charity will be held on Aug. 5 beginning at 6 p.m. at the Hotel Eldorado in Kelowna. Members have nominated charities to provide support to and after a random draw three finalists have been selected. Each of the three charities present their causes for five minutes, no Powerpoints or long speeches, just a chance to share with the group what the charity is all about and how the money will be spent. At the end of the brief presentations, a vote is held and one charity is awarded the money.

“We are overjoyed by the commitment made by the 170 individuals to give quarterly to the hard working charitable organizations in our community. The first meeting will be a great way to connect with our members and provide the successful organization with upwards of $17,000” stated Kelowna 100 men co-founder Brett Millard.

Chris Wills, co-founder, added that “the past six weeks have demonstrated that there is a committed group of men who want to give and do it as simply as possible. We hope to continue to grow the organization and encourage others that are interested, to attend the first gathering and sign up. No only is this a great charitable program, it will be a social evening as well “

The event will begin with welcoming comments, the pitches from three charities, a vote, and awarding the funds to the charity of choice. With all the work done by 8 p.m., members are encouraged to socialize and stay.

The 100 Men non-organization was founded in Halifax, Canada. The first meeting was held in February 2014, by the original group of men who gave a damn. The founding chapter has grown to over 350 members, and more than 25 new 100 Men chapters have begun to give a damn throughout North America.
