$1.16-million contract before council

The lift station adjacent to Domtar could see repairs made to the gravity main this summer if council approves the $1.16-million contract.

Improvements to the Mission Flats gravity main could begin within a few weeks if council agrees to the $1.16-million price tag at a council meeting on Tuesday.

Only two bids were submitted for the tender and Acres Enterprises Ltd. Came in with the lower of the two at $1,157,523. This is the contract city staff recommends be awarded.

If council approves the recommendations the project will combine two separate projects – installing a chamber at the pulp mill station and the rehabilitation of the airport/pulp mill lift station. The bid for the combined projects comes in slightly under the approved budget for the project.

Emergency repairs were made to the sanitary trunk main in the summer of 2011 and by the end of 2012 permanent repairs were completed. If council approves the contract work is expected to begin in May and would be complete sometime over the summer.

The pulp mill lift station services 46,000 residents on the south shore of Kamloops.

A separate project will also see the force main leading to the station upgraded later this year.
