No Doctor? No problem in Kamloops

There's always a doctor in the house at Kipp-Mallery Pharmacy in Kamloops with iMedicine Canada.

Is there a doctor in the house? Many times the answer is no, leaving patients frustrated and not knowing where to turn for health care information.

The solution, at times, to getting accurate and swift care by a medical professional, can be iMedicine Canada, a virtual family health team providing ongoing care to underserviced communities.

Where might such an approach to health care be found with communities struggling to provide an adequate number of physicians?  In Kamloops, Kipp-Mallery Pharmacy has partnered with iMedicine and has a patient studio right in their pharmacy.

“During pharmacy hours, the doctor is always in,” says pharmacist and owner Kristina Gifford. “Telemedicine is an exciting and evolving medical approach with broad implications for healthcare systems. It is a potential game-changer for the practice of modern medicine.”

Telemedicine, such as iMedicine Canada was originally created as a way to treat patients who lived in remote locations, away from local health care facilities or in areas experiencing shortages of medical professionals. While it is still used in that way, it has also become a way for convenient medical care decreasing wait times at the doctor’s office while receiving immediate care for minor, urgent matters.

iMedicine, or telemedicine, provides greater access for patients while offering significant benefits for physicians and healthcare providers.

“iMedicine delivers healthcare services and clinical information through telecommunication technology such as video, secure networks and Electronic Medical Record (EMR) solutions,” explains Gifford.

This virtual care is integral to the transformation and future development of healthcare systems as it bridges time and distance while improving communication between physicians, labs, pharmacies, clinicians and hospitals.

Kipp-Mallery, through iMedicine Canada, aims to improve health outcomes for patients with their Virtual Family Health Team.

However, Gifford wants to stress that it is important that all patients consider their medical needs and their required care. If you are suffering any life-threatening conditions like chest pain, having difficulty breathing, severe abdominal pain, or have suffered a severe trauma, 9-1-1 should be called immediately.

Walk-ins for iMedicine are welcome at Kipp-Mallery Pharmacy, or you can book an appointment that fits your schedule. For any questions regarding iMedicine or to book an appointment, call 236-425-0025 (ext. 4). Visit the web site here for more information about iMedicine.
