Integrity is key to the success of any small business.

That is especially true in the automotive industry where integrity and honesty translate to trust and reputation, which results in loyalty and revenue.

Spending 35 years as a service manager before becoming a business owner, Ron Brown knows exactly how that works and why it is important.

“It’s not just a name, it’s how we do business,” he insisted of Integrity Auto Repair in Penticton, which he purchased in 2008 and continues to run today at the intersection of Government Street and Warren Avenue East.

That slogan of sorts is taken very seriously by Brown and his team of trusted technicians and mechanics, including one with a Red Seal designation. They pride themselves on providing quality service at affordable prices.

“What sets us apart (from the competition) would be the length we’ve been in business — for 12 years,” boasted Brown, citing his history with General Motors and the fact another employee came from 18 years at a dealership. “Our rates are quite reasonable and we have the experience and expertise.”

Indeed, Integrity Auto Repair has evolved into a do-it-all business — from oil changes and tire flips to computer diagnostics and government inspections. No job is too big or too small and they are capable of working on all makes and models — from domestics to imports and classics to exotics.

“We do pretty much everything, all the general maintenance, and we have the electronic equipment to test most things,” said Brown, who also relies on his connections to meet his customers’ needs. “I have a fairly good rapport with the rest of the industry, so I can get the (electronic) information through the dealer networks because I do stuff for them and they help me out with my stuff too.”

Integrity Auto Repair has remained relatively busy over the past decade without advertising specials or attracting clientele with gimmicks — word of mouth has brought them enough business, relating back to reputation — but they do offer some promotions of interest.

“I do a year-round four for the price of three on tires,” Brown said. “Some places do it once in a while, I do it all the time. As long as you buy four tires, you pay for one less than retail. That is installed and balanced.”

Speaking of tires, it is that time of year. As for other reminders on spring maintenance — since not everyone is mechanically inclined — Brown said vehicles “basically need a lookover coming out of the winter, and you could do an oil change at the same time. It is always good to do it spring and fall, that is how everybody usually does it around here.

“The studded tires have to come off — that is mandatory, to take the studs off — whereas snow tires don’t,” he explained. “We do a brake check and stuff like that when we are taking the tires off.”

There may be other recommendations as part of that process, but Integrity Auto Repair practises what they preach by avoiding pushy sales tactics and persuasiveness that tends to be encountered elsewhere and can be prevalent across the industry.

“We only suggest stuff, we don’t scare people right out of their pants,” Brown said with a laugh.

The company website, integrityautorepairltd.ca, also reassures that “we do not oversell anything or pressure our customers to buy or repair more than necessary.”

“If we see the vehicles often, not just once a year, we can give them the proper estimate of how needed something is,” Brown added. “It can be a conversation rather than just throw a bunch of money out the window.”

Integrity Auto Repair is open Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with appointments recommended by phone at 250-493-7575 or email at integrityautorepairltd@hotmail.com.

Their full list of services include engine and transmission, steering and wheel alignment, diesel and fuel injection as well as air conditioning. Essentially, Integrity Auto Repair is the jack of all trades when it comes to keeping vehicles on the road and running smoothly in Penticton and the surrounding area.
