Exciting News For Poker Lovers

Playtime Casino in Kelowna has exciting news for those who love to play poker – the Casino is expanding and renovating its poker room. In addition, it has a series of exciting poker tournaments on the horizon for the summer of 2024, including a very special tournament to kick off the grand opening.

To be clear, Playtime Casino is not just adding more poker tables. Sure, that is part of it, but what is really exciting for poker enthusiasts in the Okanagan is the full scale of the project. The new area will have big windows, high ceilings, hospitality spaces, and adjacent seating areas. In short, poker at Playtime Casino is going to be top-tier.

What used to be a part-time Poker setup - operating just five days a week in the old poker area - is getting totally revamped. “Not a day went by that poker players didn’t harass me about staging tournaments,” laughs Casino Shift Manager Clayton Keeney. “We just did not have the right setup to take on the tournaments we wanted to, but now we do."

Great Poker Games Start With a Poker Guru

It seems that great poker tournaments need a welcoming venue, but the person organizing the game is essential, too. That is why Playtime Casino’s General Manager, Clarissa Pruden, is so grateful to have Clayton on her team. Clayton is a poker guru, Clarissa tells me, and as such, he is the perfect person to head up the changes happening. “We are making a beautiful area on the floor for poker fans; brighter, open, and modern. Daily games and the upcoming poker tournament organizing demands someone of Clayton’s level to bring it all together.”

Clayton brings 32 years of experience from early roots working as a blackjack card dealer in Richmond, BC. Since then, he has run poker games all over, and he is very clear on what the players want. There is already a huge buzz about the upcoming poker tournaments in Kelowna. “Poker players are a very close-knit community,” Clayton says. “The entire Okanagan Valley has been hungry for poker tournaments for a while now.”

The tournaments that Playtime Casino is planning are no small affair. Playtime anticipates between 100 and 150 people at each event, with new players rotating in as others are eliminated. The style of game that Clayton is putting together to kick things off will be extra unique. Called an ‘Outlaw Bounty Tournament’ the grand opening in July 2024 promises to be exciting. Players can potentially collect extra cash prizes for each round they advance, along with larger prizes for select rounds. Playtime Casino expects players from far afield, not just the Okanagan, to come in and play.

Between tournaments, even everyday poker will be played at an elevated level. The upgraded poker area means more space for players - in more comfortable surroundings. What about players who are new to the game of poker? We asked. Everyone, he says, is welcome. “Our poker dealers love talking about the game. Walk-in players are welcome, too. We are always happy to discuss the basics like buy-in procedures and explain how everything works.” The Casino also does not discourage people from watching the game - observing the game respectfully, of course.

Kicking Things off With a Grand Opening Tournament

The new Poker room is slated to open on July 17th with the Outlaw Bounty tournament happening shortly after opening. Clarissa and her poker guru, Clayton, are keeping their cards close to their chest about the exact specifics of everything that is planned, but you can follow the progress at Playtime Casino’s website.

According to Clayton, poker playing is always exciting, but the tournaments will take that passion for the game to another level. If you have any questions, you can always pop into Playtime Casino at 1300 Water Street in Kelowna, BC and ask any casino staff. Or, why not sit down for a game? Poker playing continues as usual while the new area is under renovation.

Treat Yourself to a Night Out

If you are not already part of the tight-knit poker community, it might be time to get in and practicing. In the meantime, there are many other card games and slot machines, and fabulous meals available at their premier restaurant, the Match Eatery and Public House. Treat yourself to an evening of entertainment, and don’t forget to ask about the upcoming poker tournaments!
