OPINION

We are three days into the New Year and I have seen countless posts about self-improvement regimes and casting away the bad parts of 2018 — looking forward to 2019.

I haven't made any hard and fast decisions about resolutions just yet — maybe my resolution for this year should be to plan well in advance next time.

But seriously, I love reading other people’s resolutions. They give me ideas I might not have considered.

Some of my favourites are the simple posts of encouragement I’ve seen — less stuff, more sunrises and a video of an otter doing sit-ups (I assume it has to do with working out).

But I’m not a resolution hater — in fact quite the opposite. What fun is life if we don’t have a goal in our sights – no matter how big or small.

And I didn’t hate 2018.

It was challenging.

There were some really sad and confusing parts, and some things I am still trying to piece together — to understand — to overcome.

I was scared I might lose my son, but it taught me to hold him that much closer, and I am so grateful

It was another year I got to be here on this earth, got to spend time with my children, my family, and start a new chapter in my career.

And hey, nobody gets it just perfect.

It was another year I got to witness the craziness that is this world.

The whole year went so fast and so much happened — it is honestly hard for me to remember what was making headlines last January, or maybe I just want to forget.

I’m going with the latter.

So far 2019 is off to a great start.

We may have experienced a green Christmas this year, but the last week has been nothing but snowy hills and snow angels.

I take back everything I said before about wishing winter would go by quickly.

Don't get me wrong, I still hate being cold, I still never properly layer my clothing, and I’m not the biggest fan of transporting kids from the house to the car when the cold weather hits, but even I was surprised by how happy the snow has made me.

It’s like seeing an old friend you forgot you missed, and knowing you only have a short period of time to visit, and you have a thousand things to you want to do with them and talk about.

It’s been a fun couple of days.

I’ve learned kayaks can make better sleds than sleds themselves, and my son's Ninja Turtle toy shovel is saving me having to buy a real snow shovel.

I can afford one, but why bother.

I feel revitalized, and yet I am more tired than ever, and another year older.

But something about 2019 feels inspirational. Something about it feels like something really great is going to happen this year.

This has to mean something.

There are 362 days left to make a change in your life — big or small — make 2019 as memorable as you can because it won’t last forever.
