ZipZone in Peachland no longer opening as originally planned

ZipZone Peachland is no longer opening this weekend as originally planned.

The company originally said it would open April 18 and that it would be taking extra precautions during COVID-19.

The company said it would exceed safety recommendations set by the World Health Organization and WorkSafeBC and that staff and visitors would have been subjected to temperature checks prior to entering the park.

However, the company's website reads the “opening has been delayed until further notice. Stay tuned, we will open as soon as we can.”

Peachland Mayor Cindy Fortin said in an emailed statement this past weekend that she would be extremely frustrated if visitors were coming to Peachland.

“There are many of us whose spring plans have been put on hold as we must all do our part in stopping the spread of this virus. It is particularly unnerving to know that some people are still more concerned about themselves, and their vacation plans, than in keeping everyone safe. Also, other than the beach and parks, most of the businesses are closed down, so there isn’t a lot to do in Peachland right now,” she said.

She urged residents and visitors to avoid non-essential travel.

Provincial health officer Bonnie Henry has also said to avoid all non-essential travel.

ZipZone Peachland could not be immediately reached for comment.
