Your weekend forecast: Rain, rain and more rain

Clouds and showers are expected in the Okanagan over the next three days, along with a severe thunderstorm watch issued for the south and central parts of the valley today, June 11, 2020.

There are three more days and nights of showers in the Okanagan forecast before things start looking a little brighter, but the cool start to June is expected to continue.

Unsettled conditions are prevalent in other parts of the country too, as Ontario was hit by widespread, severe thunderstorms last night that brought strong winds and heavy rain to many parts of the province, leaving thousands without power.

In Alberta, The Weather Network reports stormy conditions are expected to return to the province on Friday and Saturday, following a brief hot spell that could see temperatures as high as 28 Celsius in Edmonton on Saturday before the prospect of severe thunderstorms develop Saturday evening.

Today in the Okanagan, Environment Canada says to expect cloudy skies with a 30 per cent chance of showers this morning with more showers and a chance of thunderstorms expected this afternoon.

There is a severe thunderstorm watch for the Central and South Okanagan this afternoon.

Today’s high should reach 20 C with a low of 12 C in Vernon and Kelowna, 14 C in Penticton.

More clouds are in store for Friday, along with showers and a risk of thunderstorm.

Winds should become northwest at 20 km/h in the afternoon, with a high of 20 C in Vernon and Kelowna, 22 C in Penticton, and a low of 11 C.

More clouds and a 70 per cent chance of showers is expected to continue through Friday night.

Saturday looks like it will be damp, with periods of rain and a high of only 13 C.

There is a 60 per cent chance of showers overnight with a low of 10 C expected.

Sunday is expected to be a mix of sun and cloud with a high of 20 C and a low to 9 C.

Monday should also see a sun and cloud mix, with a high of 18 C and a low of 11 C.

There is a 40 per cent chance of showers overnight Monday along with cloudy periods.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, expect a mix of sun and cloud and highs of 20 C and 21 C respectively.

Vernon, Kelowna and Penticton’s normal average high and low for mid-June is 23 C and 10 C.
