Young woman fends off attacker in Kamloops

Kamloops RCMP responded to a North Shore volleyball court after hearing a young woman scream.

On July 28, around 10:20 p.m., police found the youth uninjured after she fought off an attacker with a knife, according to a Kamloops RCMP press release.

A man jumped out with a knife from behind a washroom and pushed her to the ground, but he fled after she fought him off.

“There was a beach party with about 30 people in attendance nearby at the time of the attack,” Const. Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson, said in the release. “We are hoping someone there saw or heard something, or can identify a suspect to help us further this investigation.”

Police patrolled the area and did detain a man nearby, but he was later released and not believed to be the suspect.

The attacker is described as a Caucasian male in his mid-20s. He is 5'10" with a slender build and a slim, long face. He has short, well-kept hair, green eyes, bushy eyebrows and a distinctive limp, according to RCMP.

At the time of the attack, he was wearing a black Nike hat, with a black shirt and baggy tan pants with large pockets.
