Undersea cable fault leaves Danish island of Bornholm without power

COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) — A fault in an undersea cable has cut off electricity to the Danish island of Bornholm on Wednesday, the local power supplier said.

The company, Trefor El-Net Øst, said that the island had been without power since 10:16 a.m. (0916GMT) and a fault in the cable between Bornholm and Sweden was to blame, public broadcaster DR reported. The cause wasn't immediately clear.

Emergency services started up a power plant in Rønne to restore the supply, but it might take a few hours before electricity is restored to the whole of the island, TV2 television reported.

Bornholm is located in the Baltic Sea, off the southern coast of Sweden.
