A woman has been arrested after being tackled by a police officer this morning across from the Cherry Lane Shopping Centre in Penticton.

Witness Terry Vandament said the woman had multicolor hair and was taken down “rather abruptly” by police, Nov. 6.

She was driving a newer Honda Pilot and parked it in an awkward spot, partially in a garden in front of the TD Bank.

After exiting the vehicle, Vandament saw the woman running on foot.

“I more or less followed the police cars out of the parking lot,” Vandament said in a Facebook message.

From around the corner, “one officer jumped out of his car and proceeded to chase her on foot. He tackled her and then the other cop cars pulled around and then they struggled with her to get the handcuffs on.”

Penticton resident Lori Capozzi saw at least four cop cars, an ambulance and fire truck at the car wash by the Co-op Gas Bar. Emergency vehicles were also at the skate park on Warren Avenue. She noticed a sign was damaged, presumably from the vehicle being taken off-road.

The RCMP confirmed a 38-year-old woman was arrested and charges are being assessed for dangerous operations of a vehicle and impaired operation of a vehicle, according to the RCMP.

The woman is also tied to a few other incidents but the RCMP is awaiting charge approval for the matter related to the driving.
