KELOWNA – A young woman from out of town was robbed while waiting for a bus in Kelowna last night.

RCMP media spokesperson Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey says the woman, who is not from Kelowna, was at a bus stop at the intersection of Highway 33 East and Rutland Road Sunday night, Jan. 7, just before 11 p.m.

O’Donaghey says the suspect approached the young woman and demanded her smart phone. Her age or hometown was not included in the release.

“The suspect allegedly snatched the woman’s Samsung Galaxy S5 cellular phone in a green case and fled on foot eastbound along Highway 33. He was reportedly observed a short distance away, being picked up by a brown crossover vehicle,” he says in a media release.

O’Donaghey says investigators seized “evidence at the scene which will be part of the ongoing police investigation.”

The suspect has brown hair and wore a dark jacket and dark toque.
