An off-duty lifeguard is being awarded after he saved a woman who was ejected from a boat when it crashed into a dock in West Kelowna.
West Kelowna RCMP officers and Emergency Health Services responded to the crash at Green Bay Bible Camp, July 29.
A boat sped into a dock and ejected a woman into the water, according an RCMP news release issued today, Aug. 12.
Upon arrival, officers learned an off-duty lifeguard from the Green Bay Bible Camp, Aiden Godwin, swam towards the unconscious woman through debris and leaking fuel.
Godwin brought her to shore and conducted first aid until the health services arrived. She was then transported to the hospital.
Yesterday, Godwin was awarded for his efforts in a ceremony by the RCMP as his efforts contributed to saving the woman's life.
“Our community is fortunate to have people like Aiden who rise above the crowds with their courage and valour. On behalf of the Kelowna Regional Royal Canadian Mounted Police and your community, we thank you Aiden,” Kelowna RCMP Supt. Kara Triance said in the release.
A ceremony was held for off-duty lifeguard Aiden Godwin, Aug. 11.
