Friends set up trust fund to help family of slain hockey mom from Surrey, B.C.

SURREY, B.C. - Friends of a slain hockey mom from Surrey, B.C., have opened a trust fund at Vancity credit union branches to help her family.

Julie Paskall was attacked last Sunday night as she waited for her son outside the Newton Arena, but she never recovered and died in hospital on Tuesday.

Family friend Bill Hoadley says Julie Paskall's husband, Al, is unable to work and the money will help the family survive over the coming months.

Hoadley says donations should be marked Paskall Family Trust.

Homicide investigators have operated a command post out of the arena parking lot for the past two days and have been canvassing the community, looking for tips.

Auxiliary RCMP officers are expected to put up posters around the community Saturday. (CKNW)
