Woman arrested after gun fired at Kootenay home

A 43-year-old woman is potentially facing charges in relation to an incident where a gun was fired at a Salmo home.

Salmo RCMP received a report of the situation just before 3:50 a.m. Jan. 15, at a property located in the 1800-block of Airport Road in Salmo. Initial reports from the scene indicated that an adult woman had allegedly discharged a firearm at the home, according to the RCMP in a news release.

Four adults were inside that home at the time of the shooting, all were uninjured. One of the occupants of the residence discharged bear spray towards the suspect who fled the area, according to the RCMP.

Salmo RCMP was supported by the Trail RCMP and Castlegar RCMP detachments who started an investigation.

The investigation led officers to find the suspect at another nearby property where she was taken into custody without further incident, said Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey, spokesperson for the B.C. RCMP in the Southeast District, in the press release. RCMP believe the incident was isolated in nature and there is no further risk to the public.

The investigation continues and will be supported by forensic specialists with the Integrated Forensic Identification Section. The suspect, a 43-year-old Salmo woman, now faces potential criminal charges and remains in custody, according to the RCMP.

Anyone with any additional information is asked to contact the Salmo RCMP at 250-357-2212.
